Find a new hobby to help you feel good
by Tom Martin

THE NETHERTON Feelgood Factory is hosting a week of free activities to encourage locals to try out new hobbies or revisit old ones.

Events will be held at the Glover’s Lane facility between Monday, July 20 and Friday, July 24.

Some of the taster sessions include arts and crafts, gardening, community dog walking, walking football, computer clinics and more.

There will also be a small exhibition about the history of leisure, information about local clubs and the chance to talk to someone about how to improve your health and wellbeing.

Sandra Duncan from the Feelgood Factory said: “This event is for everyone but we particularly hope that people will come along who may be feeling a bit isolated or low at present. You will receive a warm welcome, meet new people and, hopefully, discover some different interests.

”Not only are hobbies fun, but they can help you to stay healthy, active and happy. Evidence shows that spending time doing the things that we enjoy can help delay signs of ageing and the pleasure in participating can lead to positive feelings that can help fight against some illnesses.

“Depending on the type of activity undertaken, hobbies and interest can improve our physical fitness and flexibility, enhance the immune system, improve the memory, reduce stress and improve self-esteem.”

Some groups have limited numbers so prior booking is essential. For further details anyone interested can call 0151 291 8010.
