Firm donates £1,344 to homeless charity
by Tom Martin

A SEAFORTH-based charity which offers support to homeless people has been boosted with a £1,344 donation.

Emmaus Merseyside, which currently provides a home for 28 formerly homeless people, has received a cash donation from The Beech Group.

The demolition firm sent 50 staff members, clients and partners to the golf course where they helped raise £1,344 through donations and a raffle.

Nigel Mellor, Chair of Emmaus Merseyside, said: “We are extremely grateful to The Beech Group and the participants of their charity golf tournament. The cash donation will support work at Emmaus Merseyside’s brand new accommodation, helping to fund the fixtures and fittings that will make it feel homely for our new companions.”

Chris Wainwright, Managing Director of The Beech Group, said: “It’s a great pleasure to be able to assist our local Emmaus in the fight to combat homelessness. It’s even better when you can do it through the medium of an informal and fun golf day with clients and friends.

”The Beech Demolition business has been going strong for 52 years and although it is now very serious and professional, we do try and retain a family feel and have fun when we can. Everyone enjoyed the day and gave generously in the raffle and auction afterwards.

“We will seek to replicate that next year and are talking about working with Emmaus on other projects in the future.”

Emmaus Merseyside runs a social enterprise on Sandy Road in Seaforth, taking in and selling donated and upcycled furniture, household goods and vintage wares.

This has helped the charity raise the money needed to operate the new community building – something they have been working towards since 2004.
