Picture House's launch new season

VOLUNTEERS at Parbold Picture House have announced details of their new season.

On Sunday, August 9 at 7pm they are to show Still Alice. It stars Julianne Moore, who received an Oscar for Best Actress this year, she also received a Bafta, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award. The film co-stars  Alec Baldwin. It is a drama about a renowned woman academic diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

Foxcatcher is to be shown on Sunday, August 23 at 7pm. It is directed by Bennet Miller and stars Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, and Mark Ruffalo. The film is a US drama based on a true story about the relationship between Olympic wrestler, Mark Schultz and his wealthy sponsor John du Pont, that paints a haunting portrait of America, ambition, power and control.

Into the Woods is to be shown on Sunday, September 6 at 7pm. It is directed by Rob Marshall and stars Meryl Streep, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, and Simon Russell Beale. This film is Stephen Sondheim’s musical fantasy about a baker who is sent into a forest by a witch to retrieve a number of items that will lift a spell, and in the forest, he encounters various famous fairy tale characters.

There is a chance to see The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel on Sunday, September 20 at 7pm. The film is directed by John Madden, and stars Bill Nighy, Maggi Smith, Richard Gere, Judi Dench, and Dev Patel. It is the sequel to the run-away success about impoverished British seniors retiring to India and starting everything all over again.

On Sunday, October 4 at 7pm Testament of Youth is to be shown at 7pm. It is directed by James Kent and stars Kit Harington and Alicia Vikander. The film is based on the powerful best selling memoir of Vera Brittain - Divided by War. United by Love. 1914. The film is about a passionate journey from youthful hopes and dreams to the edge of despair and back again. This is a film of young love, the futility of war and about making sense of the darkest times.

Far from the Madding Crowd is being shown on Sunday, October 18 at 7pm. It is directed by John Schlesinger and stars Julie Christie, Terence Stamp, Peter Finch, and Alan Bates. This is the 1967 film of Thomas Hardy novel about a young woman who inherits a farm and it also looks at the three men in her life.

The National Theatre NT Live streaming of The Beaux Strategm can be seen on Thursday, September 3 at   7pm. This is George Farquhar's wild comedy of love and cash.

People can see Verdi’s Aida from the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday, September 15 at 7pm. This is a spectacular opera about ancient Egypt.

There is to be a National Theatre NT Live presentation of Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch on Thursday, October 15 at 7pm.

On Thursday, November 19 at 7pm there is to be a National Theatre NT Live presentation Of Mice and Men. This is a Broadway production of John Steinbeck’s classic tale and stars James Franco and Chris O’Dowd.

There is also a NT Live presentation of As You Like It on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 7pm.
