Day care centre to celebrate fifty years of work in Sefton
by Tom Martin

STAFF at a Netherton day centre for people with disabilities are inviting former clients and employees to help them celebrate the facility’s 50th birthday in October.

The team at the Dunningsbridge Centre, on Park Lane, are planning a special afternoon tea on Friday, October 9 to mark the anniversary of the centre’s opening in 1965.

And they are keen to welcome back anyone who has been involved with the centre, formerly known as Bootle ATC, over this time, along with their carers or families.

As well as enjoying delicious sandwiches and cakes, guests will be able to look round the centre as it is today, and meet current staff and service users.

Gill Flood, manager of the centre which is run by Sefton’s leading social care provider New Directions, said: “Reaching our half century is a major milestone for us and we’re very keen to use the occasion to highlight how the centre has improved the lives of thousands of people with disabilities over the years.

”That’s why we want as many people as possible who have worked here, or taken part in our numerous activities, to get in touch and join us at the event on October 9.“

Mrs Flood is also asking people to come forward with any old photographs or memorabilia, so that staff can mount a display looking back at the changes at the centre over the last five decades.

”I am sure that this sort of material will be of real interest to anyone who has been involved with the Dunningsbridge ‘family’ over the years,“ she said.

”All submitted items will be carefully handled, copied and we will return them to their owners in good condition.“

To book places at the celebration afternoon tea, or for more information about the event, ring the Dunningsbridge Centre on 0151 525 6685 or email
