Group knits poppy display in memory of area's war victims
by Tom Martin

A COMMUNITY group has created a unique tribute to local war victims by knitting their own poppy display in Seaforth.

Members of Knit and Natter have been working hard to make their special artwork which can now be seen in the window of Seaforth Information Network Group (SING), on Seaforth Road.

They were inspired by the Tower of London's ‘weeping window' installation which attracted more than five million people to see the ceramic poppies in 2014.

An official unveiling of the Seaforth display was held on Wednesday, October 7 with appearances from MP Peter Dowd, local Councillors, leader of community group Prospice 21 and Star of the Sea veterans.

As well as the window display, there is also more to see on the inside of SING, which includes stories of local families who lost a loved one at war and copies of original letters.

Organisers are now inviting the public to come and view the tribute and also add to it if they have any documents or photographs.

Les Ellis, from Prospice 21 said: “This is a tribute to the enthusiasm of the ladies of our Knit and Natter class, ably supported by the management of SING. The premises at Seaforth Road provide an outlet for our older population to meet and this is what can be achieved. Our thanks go to all

bodies who have given their support financially and practically to create this meeting place.”
