Group does its bit for forgotten landmarks
by Tom Martin

A WATERLOO community group has raised £440 which will go towards restoring forgotten landmarks within local parks.

Friends of Waterloo Seafront Gardens, which helps to maintain the four garden areas along the coastline, will now use the money to restore the wooden bridge in Beach Lawn Garden to its original 1930s appearance.

It is part of broader plans to also restore the toposcope in Adelaide Garden and develop the central area in Crescent Garden to give the green area a new-look.

As reported earlier this month in the Champion, volunteers took part in LocalGiving's fundraiser called Grow Your Tenner, which matched any one off donations, pound for pound, for any figure up to £10.

Groups and charities could receive a maximum of £10,000, with Friends of Waterloo Seafront Gardens eventually getting £440.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We raised £440 through the campaign and this will be used to improve the Gardens via one of our projects. The first project due for completion is the bridge at Beach Lawn which we are really looking forward to.”
