'Moving' war play wins art award
by Tom Martin

NETHERTON pupils who staged a “moving” reconstruction of World War One earlier this year have now been awarded for their efforts.

Netherton Moss Primary School scooped the Outstanding Arts trophy at the annual Educate Awards ceremony held last week at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.

More than 500 guests gathered to see schools from across Merserside and Lancashire win a total of 19 awards in different categories.

Judges hailed Netherton Moss Primary School and said that the World War One project was “outstanding and very moving”.

The reconstruction was also given praise due to it involving every child and several art forms, bringing to life the horrors of 100 years ago.

Netherton Moss was also a runner up in the coveted Wow Recognition category, which was won by Gateacre School.

Liverpool actor Neil Fitzmaurice hosted the ceremony, while guests were treated to special performances by schools shortlisted for the outstanding arts awards.

Kim O’Brien, founder of the Educate Awards, says: “Every year the judges and I are blown away by the school’s entries and this year was no exception. It’s fantastic to award so many hard working schools and teachers who create such an engaging learning environment.

”Congratulations to all the winners and shortlisted schools, and thank you to each and every school that submitted an entry this year.“

The winners are chosen by a panel of judges which this year included Liverpool FC legend Robbie Fowler and Radio City breakfast host Leanne Campbell.
