Model reindeer are simply tree-mendous!
by Tom Martin

A CHRISTMAS fair held last weekend in Seaforth was given an added boost after volunteers created their own reindeer made out of wood!

Those from homeless charity, Emmaus Merseyside, decided to craft a range of wooden reindeer, including the likes of Rudfolf, Dasher, Prancer and Vixen, for the event which took place at The Bowersdale Resource Centre on Saturday, November 28.

It wasn't just the festive reindeer which was made from logs, but also candle holders and other decorations that were be sold at the event and in the Emmaus charity superstore on Sandy Road.

Leanne Broe, volunteer at Emmaus Merseyside, said: “I’ve enjoyed making the Christmas candle holders out of logs. It’s a new experience for me and I’ve learned some new skills in the workshop.”

Emmaus Merseyside will eventually support up to 28 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting once their new eagerly-awaited residential facility is opened in Seaforth.

The charity also runs a social enterprise on Sandy Road, selling donated furniture, clothes, books and household goods to help to raise funds to support formerly homeless people.

Ray Myers, shop manager at Emmaus Merseyside, said: “We really wanted to get involved and support the Christmas Fair at The Bowersdale Centre to spread the word about Emmaus Merseyside and chat to people from the local community. Events like this help to bring different groups and people together and make a difference in the local area.”
