Police target off licence in illegal booze crackdown
by Tom Martin

AN off licence in Netherton has had its premises licence revoked by Sefton Council following a police investigation into the sale of counterfeit vodka and postage stamps.

Target Foods & Off Licence, on Park Lane, will no longer be able to sell alcohol after a Merseyside Police raid back in September found it was illegally selling alcohol to customers.

Officers also discovered that the owner, Thamordorame Sudaksan, was an illegal immigrant and he was arrested in connection to the “criminal activity” going on at the shop.

A meeting held last week by Sefton Council has now resulted in the store's premises licence being revoked.

The local authority had a number of options available to them, which ranged from revoking the licence completely to simply “modifying” the way the store is run.

However, they chose to take the strongest course of action possible and the store can no longer sell any form of alcohol.

Ahead of last week's meeting, which took place on Tuesday, November 24, supporting evidence was given to the council by Merseyside Police.

The document stated: “On Monday, September 21 a multi-agency operation was conducted at the premises during which a search warrant was executed. The premises licence holder and designated premises supervisor (DPS), Mr Thamordorame Sudaksan, was on the premises.

“Enquiries were made with regard to Mr Sudaksan's immigration status where it was established that he was in the UK unlawfully. Mr Sudaksan was subsequently arrested.

“A search of the shop and the flat above was conducted, during which counterfeit goods were found, namely postage stamps and vodka products. Mr Sudaksan was further arrested for these offences.”
