Former pub to be a children's nursery
by Tom Martin

SEFTON Council has given the green light for plans to turn a closed-down pub in Bootle into a day nursery.

As reported in the Champion last month, the former Stanley Arms, on Litherland Road, had been earmarked by developers who wanted to turn the building into a children's care centre.

The local authority has now approved the planning application, paving the way for the applicant, Parkside Building Design, to begin work.

The proposal involves refurbishing the empty pub and then reopen it as a day nursery for local youngsters.

As the pub is located within a conservation area, careful consideration had to be taken by the council to ensure that the proposed work would not harm the ‘character' of the area.

The planning application states: “Situated within a conservation area, the proposal will be sympathetic to the building's character and in the main will remain unaltered without the need for any significant alterations and extensions.”

The day nursery will be big enough to welcome up to 79 children and have a maximum of 16 members of staff. There will also be a new car park for parents to drop off their children.
