Pupil Poppy helps lead Sacred Heart's homeless appeal
by Tom Martin

A SELFLESS group of pupils from Crosby gave up their evening to go and give out food parcels to homeless people.

The youngsters, from Sacred Heart High School, recently traveled to the city centre to hand out 35 packages which contained food, toiletries and warm clothing.

The idea was from six-year-old Poppy Crilly, who is the sister of Year 10 pupil Daisy, after the child asked her mum if it would be possible to help those living on the streets before Christmas.

The idea snowballed from there and Poppy, Daisy, their parents along with fellow pupils from Sacred Heart went in search of those in need of help to give them a much-needed gift.

Poppy and Daisy's mum said: “At such a young age, Poppy has thought about others, and I think that is just wonderful and should be recognised. At first, she was a bit daunted at the prospect but the homeless men and women made such a fuss of her and thanked her for her generosity.”

Daisy added: “It was a really emotional thing to do but we’ve all taken so much from it and will do it again.”
