CROSBY pupils were Bavaria bound as part of a recent German exchange scheme.

A group of 12 youngsters and their teachers spent five days with their counterparts from the Realschule Niederviehbach, a Catholic middle school, in a town near Munich.

As well as finding out about life in Germany and brushing up their language skills, the visit gave the children an opportunity to experience a typical school day in Bavaria, which starts at 8am and finishes at 1pm.

Other days were spent exploring the area with trips to the Bavarian Forest National Park and the town of Landshut, famous for its church tower which at 428 feet is considered to be the tallest brick building in Europe.

Pupils also visited the 2,000-year-old town of Regensburg where notable attractions include a medieval town centre, a Roman fortress, a Gothic cathedral and the oldest stone bridge in Europe.

One of the most popular features of the holiday was the trip to the Allianz Stadium, home of Bayern Munich.

Despite their very busy schedule, the pupils also found time for exploring and shopping in Munich and managed to get in a game of bowling.

St Mary’s Head of Modern Foreign Languages Alex Stagogiannis said: “This was another very successful exchange trip which I am sure everyone who took part in will remember for a long time.

”We’re now looking forward to welcoming our German friends to Crosby in a few months’ time.

“International links like this are a great way to enhance the learning of a foreign language, and to broaden the horizons of our students.”
