MARK Twain memorably described golf as a ‘good walk spoiled’ but the West Lancs golf club have turned the tables on the many walkers who enjoy walking from Hall Road up to Hightown .

They have constructed a monstrously ugly seven foot high fence to separate the golf course from the Sefton coastal strip ruining the outlook for walkers enjoying our beautiful Sefton coast.

It is a mystery how they obtained planning permission and it looks like the fence in places is many yards on the Sefton side of the original boundary posts and that the club have staged a land grab on our coast.

Frank Large recently had a letter published over his concerns about the heavy machinery used by the contractors damaging delicate habitats of rare flowers such as the Bee Orchid and seeing the damage done I totally support his view.

I urge Sefton Planners to look at the position and suitability of the fence and get it replaced with something that is sympathetic to this area and not to a maximum security prison.

A Leeder
