Locals meet to discuss best direction for care group
by Tom Martin

MORE than 80 people met up in Netherton to discuss the service given by a local social care provider.

An event was held at the Park Hotel as a new consultative body set up by New Directions saw its service users, carers, staff and board members meet up.

The group, called New Directions Care Quality Forum, was set up to act as the organisation's sounding board to enable clients to comment on the quality of New Directions' services.

The main discussion topic at the latest meeting was access to services, with a particular focus on transport.

The views were recorded to help in the planning of services in 2016 and beyond.

New Directions Chief Operating Officer, Penny Fell, said: “As well as being an enjoyable seasonal get-together this was another very useful meeting, with plenty of information shared and views expressed about a wide range of our services.

”Encouragingly, we also received a lot of positive feedback about the forum itself. People said they were glad they attended and benefited from what they heard.

“This demonstrates that the forum is proving to be a valuable two-way process, with an important role to play in the future of the organisation, and it also means that we go into 2016 with a spring in our step!”

The forum also provides a much-needed opportunity for New Directions carers to talk to each other about their responsibilities in supporting the most vulnerable people in their families and communities.

New Directions was established in 2007 as the first local authority social care trading company in the country.

Its team of 400 staff provide a wide range of services for older Sefton residents and other adults with disabilities.
