Strand bosses promise 'major' improvements
by Tom Martin

BOSSES at the Strand Shopping Centre have reflected on a “great year” in 2015 but are already looking forward to the next 12 months and hope to build on the number of new shops opening up.

Last year, four stores opened their doors in the form of Pep&Co, TJ Hughes, Strand By Me and The Barber Shop.

The businesses were able to make use of previously empty units, boosting the appearance of the centre and providing more options for shoppers in the town.

Those in charge of the Strand are now hoping 2016 can be even more successful and continue the trend of new businesses arriving in the centre.

Rob Clarke, the centre manager said: “2015 has been a great year for the Strand with the start and continuation of the refurbishment and building repairs. Also the opening of four new stores including Pep and co, TJ Hughes, Strand By Me, and The Barber Shop. We have many more retailers due to open in 2016 and are confident this will be another exciting year for the Centre.”

Meanwhile, the Strand ended 2015 by inviting children from five local schools to take part in a story telling session in a bid to promote the importance of literacy.

Lucy Kirk, marketing manager of the Strand added: “We wanted to do something to reach out to schools and the local community to show that The Strand is changing. We came up with the idea of doing a story telling session for local schools to promote the importance of literacy and spread a little festive cheer.

”The event was run in conjunction with Sefton Council and was really successful. We were overwhelmed by the response from local schools, who really enjoyed the trips.

“Community engagement is as the heart of our events calendar for 2016, we have done lots of new successful events in 2015 and this was the perfect end to a great year for The Strand.”
