Artz Centre toasts two years of success
by Henry James

STAFF and students of Skelmersdale’s Artz Centre, have been celebrating two years of success with a glitzy awards night at The DW Stadium in Wigan.

Sponsored by local businesses The Karl Vella Group and Enterprise Rent A Car, the event was staged at the DW Stadium in Wigan and the Mayor of West Lancashire Councillor Nikki Hennessy was among the guests.

It featured a special awards presentation in which local children and students of The Artz Centre received recognition for their achievements throughout another ground breaking year for the Social Enterprise.

The Artz Centre was launched in January 2014, after the company took over the Birch Green Community Centre in Skelmersdale and since then it has gone from strength to strength.

It is now home to over 250 students from Skelmersdale and West Lancashire, offering opportunities in all areas of the Arts including Drama, Music, Dance, Photography, Film and Recorded Music.

The company were also keen to celebrate their partnership work with other local agencies, schools and businesses in which they have built a great working relationship.

Management consultant and community business owner Maureen Fazal, was also at the event and said: “Just wanted to congratulate you all for the wonderful event we attended on Saturday night!

”It was both a pleasure and honour to be present and I just can't emphasise enough, how wonderful it was to see so many talented young people receiving their just recognition. They are all a credit to West Lancashire. Yourself and the team have done an amazing job and I look forward to attending your forthcoming events scheduled for this year. Well done to you all.“

This was the overwhelming response by all in attendance, Artz Centre director Mark Ashton commented:”It truly was a memorable night and a great indication of how far we have come in the last couple of years.

“Seeing so many of our students dressed to impress and enjoying themselves is what its all about.

”The Artz Centre was about opportunity and promoting excellence in our young people. We always aim high and continue to push the boundaries of what is possible.

“I wanted again to thank the monumental effort and dedication of my team and those that have supported us this year.

”We continue to move forward and are always looking for new ways and initiatives to develop our students. We have recently become an accredited centre, which means we will now be able to offer our students nationally recognised qualifications for their achievements. 2016 is set to be another amazing year for all involved.“
