Friends performing Gershwin concert at village hall

by Henry James (April 2019)

PARBOLD Douglas Music is to present the pianists, Peter Donohoe and Martin Roscoe performing on two Steinway Concert Grands at Parbold Village Hall.

The Gershwin concert, which will take place this Saturday (April 27) at 7.45 p.m., has been sold out for three months.

The chance of witnessing these two friends playing Gershwin with ‘superlative accomplishment and breath-taking bravura…infectious zest and affectionate swagger” is one of the rare and unmissable spectacles of the concert platform.

Their programme includes: George Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, Rhapsody in Blue, Percy Granger’s Fantasy on Porgy & Bess and Maurice Ravel’s Rhapsody Espagnole.

Only a few standby tickets and any returns on the night are all that will be available.

Martin Roscoe and Peter Donohoe have been playing together as a piano duo since their student days. Their easy communication and impressive virtuosity have earned them great respect and their Gershwin and Rachmaninov recordings are described as “remarkable achievements” in BBC Music Magazine. Martin is a regular visitor to Parbold Douglas Music and Peter is making it a ‘hat-trick’, with three in a row Parbold performances, having stood in, at the very last moment, when one pianist was ill, and again, when international star cellist, Natalie Clein’s pianist was unavailable.

Next month there are only stand-by tickets left for Parbold Douglas Music’s Saturday, May 25 concert featuring the special duo of the UK finest jazz singer, Jacqui Dankworth and the UK and international guitarist and ever-popular, Craig Ogden in a relaxed programme that they’ve entitled ’I do it for your love’.

There are still tickets available for the Russian virtuoso pianist Nikolai Demidenko who returns from his tour of China to open the new 2019-20 season on Saturday, June 22 at 7.45 p.m., with his acknowledged brilliant interpretations of major works by Franz Schubert, Alexander Scriabin and Sergei Prokofiev.

Concert Tickets are £18 for adults and £5 for young persons and students. To book or order tickets go online to; E-mail:, or telephone: 01257 498452 (booking answerphone).
