A FIRE broke out at Southport train station on Bank Holiday Monday after strong winds blew a branch onto the tracks. Services are now running again.
Allan Gibbs-Monaghan at Network Rail, said: “Our investigation into the fire on platform one at Southport station is continuing and we’re checking CCTV footage.
“We believe strong winds blew a tree branch onto the track which caught light on the electric rail. We’d like to thank colleagues from Mersey Fire and Rescue service for their swift action and passengers for their patience.”
