Athletes to compete at ‘special olympics’

TEN athletes from the area, all with intellectual disabilities, will represent the North West at the National Special Olympics Summer Games in Sheffield.

Four days of competition will follow the opening ceremony at Bramall Lane Stadium, home of Sheffield United FC.

Three competitors from Southport and Formby Special Athletes will be playing football, five will play boccia, one table tennis and one badminton.

Participants include Daniel Gresty (above) who has won several medals table tennis events, and Mark Goulder who represented Great Britain in badminton at the 2013 European Special Olympics.
