A STRUMMER Jam Festival is be held at the E Rooms in Westgate, Skelmersdale this Friday (August 18) and Saturday (August 19) to raise money for the Joe Strummer Foundation.

There will be 22 local acts over two stages and the money will go towards the foundation which helps musicians.

There will be free entry to the event with one stage indoors and one stage outdoors. The music will start at 1pm on the Saturday and 7pm on the Friday.

The headline act on the Friday is the Wigan Punk band called Riggotts, and Redeyed Jedi – a six piece ska band are the headline act on the Saturday.

Steve Horrocks, who is director of the E Rooms said: “The Joe Strummer Foundation’s aims to provide opportunities to musicians and support to projects around the world that create empowerment through music. The foundation was set up by Joe Strummer, who was the Clash lead singer.

“It is hard work trying to organise 22 bands to play at the event. We have been working on this for the last three months and hope to raise lots of money.

“We usually hold a charity festival every year, but this is the first time that we have organised one for the Joe Strummer Foundation.

“During the weekend there will be a festival atmosphere and there will be hot dogs for sale. Hopefully the sun will shine and everyone will have a fantastic time.”
