SINCE members of the 6th Formby Methodist Brownies last met in person in March, their unit of 28 girls and six leaders have not stopped – with them earning 106 badges so far!
Laura Stewart, Brown Owl, told the Champion: “The fun has been continuing over weekly Zoom meetings where we also celebrated the unit’s 55th birthday with a virtual party.
“We even got a seal of approval from Matt Lucas on Twitter when we made Mexican Mr Potato Heads.
“Soon after we started our Zoom calls, the girls were inspired to complete Brownie activities. From painting to baking, creating golf courses to learning the recovery position, these Brownies have been trying all sorts of new skills over the past few months!
“Together, they have earned 43 interest badges, Gardening, Baking and Mindfulness amongst the most popular, 29 Skills Builders, 24 Theme Awards, 7 Brownie Bronze Awards and 4 Brownie Silver Awards. This takes their current total to 106 programme badges earned, that isn't even counting the unofficial challenge badges and fun badges they have earned through Zoom meetings and taking part in events such as the Girlguiding Adventures at Home festival and the Sefton County virtual sleepover.
“The enthusiasm of the girls has encouraged their families and siblings to join in with plenty of their activities too which has been wonderful to see. We are very grateful for the support of their parents and we are so proud of the girls' phenomenal achievement - who knows what the grand total will be when we finish for the summer?
“We haven't been able to present the girls with the badges yet but we have been sending electronic certificates to celebrate their achievements.
“Their next task? Designing the “We earned 100 badges during lockdown” badge, of course! We are so glad that we made the decision to continue running Brownies.”
