Support Plaza, plea!

FILM fans have been urged to support the Plaza Cinema after their first week back open was described by concerned staff as ‘very quiet.’

Locals have been urged to ‘use it or lose it’ after the Waterloo cinema reopened its doors following the coronavirus lockdown.

However, the response has been under-whelming and staff are hoping to get more people through the doors to watch the latest films.

A spokesperson said: “As we approach the end of our first week back open, we have been very quiet each day.

“The nice weather hasn’t helped our cause but we can reassure everyone that the Plaza has carried significant changes ensuring the safety of all customers who come to watch a film.

“Please visit the plaza website for times of films available. The Plaza box office will be open at 11:30am each day.”

Locals have been quick to offer their support to the Plaza on social media by leaving positive reviews for them.

One person said: “I visited with my little one and I cannot speak higher of the place.

“There were multiple safety measures in place and it was a very safe environment run by lovely volunteers.

“This is another business suffering the effects of the pandemic which everybody should visit to support.”

Another posted: “We went today and it was really nice to do something we normally like to do.

“The place was very clean with automatic hand sanitisers and a ‘one in one out’ policy for the toilets and effective social distancing throughout. I felt very safe.”

Another customer said: “Went to the Plaza for the first time last night and it was a fantastic experience.

“Naturally, with the current circumstances, there was a level of apprehension about going in to an enclosed space with other groups of people.

“However, everything was so spaced out, there was hand sanitiser placed in different places throughout the building and all staff were so helpful and made us feel incredibly comfortable.

“It really added to what was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and couldn’t have gone any better for us.”
