AN Ormskirk cyclist took on the ultimate challenge as he travelled around 1,000 miles across 14 days to raise money for charity.
Philip Barton, 49, completed the cycle with friend Nick Lilley when they took on the Land’s End to John O’Groats challenge, which is the length of Great Britain!
They managed to raise around £1,500, which will be donated to the Sunrise Academy Ukunda Charitable Trust, which was set-up by Philip.
The charity is in the middle of fundraising to help build a new classroom in the Kenyan town.
Philip, who works for Metropolitan Police assessing new recruits, said: “I was on holiday in Kenya near Mombasa and one evening while chatting to a local guy in a bar I heard there was a village school that had recently opened and they were struggling a little.
“Next day I went to investigate and I met with Principal Jane Mutinda and her teachers and pupils then decided to try to help them as much as possible.”
