Former Mayor of Sefton passes away

TRIBUTES have been paid to former Mayor of Sefton Wendy Jones, who has passed away at the age of 92.

Wendy was born in Wallasey in May 1928, and she attended Wallasey High School from 1939-1940, Llangefni County School 1940-44, and Wallasey High School 1944-1945.  

She met future husband Granville Jones at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, where she studied between 1945-1949.  They married at St James‘ Church in New Brighton in August 1949.

She taught at Litherland High School for Girls from 1949-1955, and joined Merchant Taylors' Girls' School in 1959, where she remained until 1989, teaching Geography and Economics, as well as holding the post of Assistant Mistress.

Following her retirement, she became Councillor for Blundellsands Ward from 1992-2006.  She was proud to become Mayor of Sefton MBC for 2000/01, and went on to become Chairman of Crosby Conservative Association from 2002- 2004.

She had two sons, Graham and Howard, who both went to Merchant Taylors'.
