THERE were 217 coronavirus cases per 100,000 in West Lancashire, which compares to the average area in England of 52 for the period September 26 to October 2.
There were 248 cases in West Lancashire in that period, which was up 117 on the previous week and the total cases in the borough up to October 5 is 1,360.
There have been 118 coronavirus-related deaths registered in West Lancashire up to September 25.
The pandemic has affected schools in the borough with staff and pupils at three classes at Pontville School in Ormskirk sent home to self-isolate after two members of staff tested positive for coronavirus.
Pubs and bars have also been affected with the Legh Arms in Mere Brow closed until Thursday, October 15 after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus.
A post on their social media page said: “A member of our team has tested positive to coronavirus to whom we have provided our full support.
“We decided that temporary closure was our only option.
“We are working tirelessly to contact all relevant customers who have visited us and are following official Government track and trace advice and guidance.”
It added that a thorough deep clean of the premises will be carried out.
Burscough restaurant Eden is also now closed until Wednesday, October 14 after a member of staff tested positive for Covid. The Ship pub at Lathom has also closed for a period after a staff member tested positive.
