THE announcement that Lancashire will go into Tier 3 on December 2 has been criticised by West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper, who accused the government of ‘using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.’
She said: “Instead of dealing with Coronavirus based on the science and figures, lazily they have just decided on their tier levels at a County level without due regard to local variances.
“County Leaders made a sensible proposal to Government that those areas still with high Covid rates be placed in Tier 3 whilst areas with reducing rates including West Lancashire, Chorley and South Ribble move to Tier 2.
“Ignoring the facts of the situation, including falling Covid rates locally here in West Lancashire and the calls by local leaders, Government has continued with restrictions, disruption and misery for my West Lancashire constituents and businesses who will now remain in severe restrictions until at least 16 December despite the reducing levels of Covid.
“Government must now back up their decision with adequate financial support for businesses and employees and set out a clear plan how West Lancashire and the rest of the country can come out of restrictions safely.”
