NOW that lockdown is ending, residents are being invited to try playing crown green bowling for fun and at the same time getting gentle exercise and fresh air and meeting new people.
Ormskirk Bowling Club are reopening with covid safety measures in place and would like to welcome people of any age or gender to come along and have a go.
It is hoped that restrictions will be further eased in the near future, allowing more people to play the game.
As part of the ‘National Bowls Big Weekend’ which is set for the Bank Holiday at the end of May, the club will be opening its doors for anyone to come along and have a look at the club and it's excellent facilities, and have go.
Plans are still being put together, but on Saturday, May 29 the club will be open for an adult taster session, when people will be able to have a drink, enjoy some music, and have some fun having a go at bowling.
On Monday, May 31, there will be a family taster session in the morning for the whole family (parents, children, and grandparents), and in the afternoon there will be a general taster session.
Further details will be available shortly and posted on the club website (Ormskirkbowlinclub.wordpress.com).
At all sessions club players will be in attendance to show people how to play.
One of the club’s new members is Brian Green, former Olympic sprinter and bobsleigh team member, who enjoys the social and friendly atmosphere and says that he ‘wished he had taken up the game 50 years ago.’
Ormskirk Bowling Club is located at the back of Ormskirk Cricket Club off Altys Lane.
