HEARTLESS thieves stole
charity funds raised to support veterans across Sefton and their families.
The SSAFA charity box was stolen from Cleveland Cafe on Lord Street during a burglary overnight between the evening of Sunday, May 2 and the morning of Bank Holiday Monday (May 3).
SSAFA (the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) is a UK charity that provides lifelong support to serving men and women and veterans from the British Armed Forces and their families or dependents. Anyone who is currently serving or has ever served in the Royal Navy, British Army or Royal Air Force and their families, both regulars and reserves, is eligible for their help.
Major Tom Mckenzie, SSAFA fundraising and awareness manager for Sefton said: “The cafe is used as a hub to support veterans and their families in Sefton.
“The funds in the box were estimated to have been between £50 and £60.
“This is a shameful theft and I would urge anyone with any information about the burglary to inform the police.”
