Club donates to campaign

by Tom Martin (May 2021)

Rotary Club of Southport Links has donated £1,500 to help African medical staff and patients battle against coronavirus.

The local group have been supportive of a vaccination fundraising campaign set up by  the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, known as Bump It Forwards.

This campaign was set up to ask residents who have had a Covid jab to donate an amount equivalent to the cost of the vaccination to their fund, which they estimated to be £25.

Funds raised are then spent on PPE and other equipment for medical staff, volunteers and patients in Africa, who will have to wait for some time before the Covid vaccination will be available to them.

Rotary Club of Southport members raised £750 to support the campaign and this amount was doubled from money the club had raised through other activities, increasing the fund to £1,500.

A recent cheque presentation was carried out by Club President Robin Carter, who presented the money to Karen Brady, the director of Fundraising for the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
