A YOUNG martial arts star from West Lancashire will represent Great Britain in the upcoming European Championships.
Josh Tobin, who trains at the Gajok Taekwondo Academy in Burscough has been selected to represent Great Britain in the championships to be held in Bosnia in November.
Josh, who is head boy at St Bede’s Catholic High School, in Ormksirk has been on the GB Development Squad in Manchester for nearly two years where he trains two full days every two weeks with Great Britain’s finest coaches.
Josh was bestowed a prestigious award and funding to support his journey by Sports Aid under its banner ‘Backing the Best’ with previous recipients including Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis Hill.
In April Josh was also named GB Taekwondo’s first ever Athlete of the Month.
His coach Claire Howard from Gajok Taekwondo Academy said: “I am immensely proud of his selection, but it came as no surprise given what Josh has achieved in the last 12 months, in very uncertain times with the difficulties in training and competing through the pandemic.
“He is an incredible athlete. His drive and desire to be the best along with his phenomenal ability, dedication, commitment and love for the sport will I believe take him to the very top.
“Josh will travel with his teammates to a training camp in Croatia this month in preparation for the upcoming championships.”
