THE Year 5 and 6 football team at Rufford CE Primary School have won a West Lancashire Football Qualifier for the Danone Football Cup.

They are now attending the County Finals in Thornton-Cleveley on Thursday, January 20.

The recent qualifier was held at the JMO in Skelmersdale.

Sarah Travis, the PE co-ordinator at Rufford CE Primary School said: “The school football team has not been able to run for a while due to Covid. This year the team started to train once again on a Wednesday after school. The children love training which is delivered by Mr Newsham and James. A team was selected to take part in the District Qualifiers for the Danone Football Cup.

“The squad will now represent West Lancashire at the Small Schools Football County Finals. They will compete against other schools from across the Lancashire Boroughs to see who will be crowned Lancashire Champions. The competition is taking place on Thursday, January 20 2022 at Poolfoot Farm Sports and Leisure Complex in Thornton-Cleveleys.
