MORE than £9,000 was raised from the recent Botanic Gardens Family Fun Day to go towards restoration works in the park.
The event, which saw thousands of visitors enjoy a range of attractions, was organised by the Make A Change For Botanic campaign group.
It was supported by the Botanic Gardens Community Association, whose volunteers have led the maintenance of the gardens for the past 11 years; Green Sefton; Rotary Club of Southport; and others.
Jess Thwaites, one of the main organisers, said: “This event wasn’t a ‘fundraiser’, it was a ‘fun day’ to celebrate the park and raise awareness of the campaign - yet we’ve managed to raise £2,267.85 in cash donations from the public and another £7,000 of generous donations has been raised from our sponsors - Monkey Puzzle Nursery in Southport.”
Donations also came via The Settle Inn, the stall holders, local businesses including The Dram Gift Shop, local councillors and the fun-day events such as Paris Bubble Entertainment and iZorb.
