MORE than 150 girls from schools across West Lancashire descended upon JMO Sports Park for their Euro 2022 football tournament on Friday, June 24.
Organised by the West Lancashire Sport Partnership, the event aimed to encourage girls to take up football and get as active as possible while having fun with their friends.
Leader of the borough council Yvonne Gagen opened the event and talked about her previous career in women’s football, having played for Wigan and represented Wales at international level.
Chris Hart, school games organiser for West Lancashire said: “It was great to see so many girls taking part, they were fantastic throughout and showed brilliant skills.”
Their next flagship event is a Commonwealth Games event on Monday, July 11 at Edge Hill University when both high schools and primary schools will take part.
