Hotel looks to benefit from waterfront site transformation

by Tom Martin (June 2022)

THE Bliss Hotel and the former Genting casino next door could benefit from the transformation of Southport’s waterfront site as the owners look to take advantage of the town’s £75m regeneration proposals.

The Champion has already reported how plans are at an advanced stage to build the new £75million Marine Lake Events Centre, which is located next door to the Bliss.

Hotel owners, Waterfront Southport Properties, want to take advantage of the regeneration of the area and has now appointed the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm, CBRE, to advise on strategic options.

One consideration for CBRE is the redevelopment of the former Genting casino and how it could then be incorporated into the Bliss Hotel. Other options for the closed-down casino include conversion into  residential or senior living accommodation, use as a leisure or food and drink venue or redevelopment into office space.

Shaun Skidmore, the senior director at CBRE said: “The scheme is located in an excellent position next door to the newly proposed events centre and waterfront development.

“The recent upscaling to a luxury boutique has repositioned the  Bliss Hotel  significantly with respect to customer profile and rate, while the  adjoining scheme offers an exciting opportunity for redevelopment or expansion.”

The Marine Lake Events Centre was the focus of a recent consultation by Sefton Council, which ended on June 10.
