WORK is well underway at the new home of Waterstones on Chapel Street, ahead of an opening date later this month.
The bookshop is set to depart its current shop on Lord Street and relocate the short distance to 59 Chapel Street.
Workers are now inside the shop to transform it into Waterstones’ new branch, which they say will be open at some point in August.
The arrival of the bookshop should be a huge boost to Chapel Street. Other positive developments on the high street include work to transform the former BHS store into apartments, which will begin in September.
The former HMV store also has a new occupier, Barnardos.
The Champion reported in June how the Waterstones store on Lord Street will be taken over by Loungers UK, which has submitted a planning application to invest £1million in transforming the building into a new Lounge restaurant.
Loungers UK plan to spend £1million to transform the ground, first and second floors of Waterstones’ branch on Lord Street, plus the first floor of 3-9 Nevill Street.
Loungers UK Ltd has submitted a Listed Building Consent to Sefton Council in order to get permission to carry out its plans.
