New doors and windows for flats
by Henry James

FLATS in Old Skelmersdale are being given new doors, windows and roofing as part of a £500,000 investment by the borough council.

Other work currently underway on flats in Whitburn and Waverley, includes new insulation and fascias.

Tenants and leaseholders were consulted before works started, with residenst themselves choosing the colour of the fascias and cladding.

The total investment by the council in 43 blocks at Whitburn and Waverley comes to £537,000.

David Gallagher, Conservative candidate for Skelmersdale South Ward, said: “This is excellent news for the residents of Whitburn and Waverley.

”The improvements are already having a positive effect on the area, and many residents have commented to me just how pleased they are with them.

“This shows that, even though we are in tough economic times, through careful management of taxpayers' hard earned money, the borough council is continuing to invest in Skelmersdale.

”Since the Conservatives took over the running of the council, there has been significant improvements in Skelmersdale South, with brand new pitches at Blaguegate, investment in our local roads and a completely revamped Stanley Coronation Park.“

He added that there are now plans by the county council, working in partnership with the borough council, for improvements to the Sandy Lane area, including possible new landscaping near the war memorial and free trees or hanging baskets for residents.
