Club to benefit from Olympic legacy funding
by Natasha Young

AINSDALE Sports and Social Club will receive £50,000 of Olympic and Paralympic legacy funding, as part of Sport England's ‘Inspired Facilities' initiative.

The Liverpool Road based club will put the National Lottery funding towards an upgrade of its changing facilities, which are said to have helped thousands of young people get into sport since they were fist built in the 1970s.

The club, which is among 46 grassroots sports projects in the North West to receive a share of a £2.3m Olympic fund, aims to provide a new roof, additional changing facilities, new showers, new electrical, plumbing and heating systems, redecoration throughout the building and the installation of disabled facilities.

Following the funding announcement last week, Sport England's chair, Richard Lewis, said: “This National Lottery investment will create a lasting sporting legacy for the Ainsdale area.”

Ainsdale Sports and Social Club's chairman, Tony Nicholson, described the cash boost as the “cornerstone” of the club's strategy to “have an outstanding club for the 2012 Olympics' legacy.”

He added: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our changing rooms so as to provide the residents of Ainsdale with the sporting facilities they deserve.”

Ainsdale councillor Haydn Preece also welcomed the news, and added: “Ainsdale Club members have been determined, dedicated and progressive in the sourcing of significant funds to enhance the facilities and encourage young people to participate in sport at a whole variety of skill levels.

”Everyone in Ainsdale should be very proud of the club's achievements.“
