Mum banks £500 boost for school
by David Simister

YOUNGSTERS with special needs at a Scarisbrick school have been given a £500 boost this week after one of the pupils' parents teamed up with a bank to help secure a grant.

Lorraine Sutter, whose twin daughters attend St Mary's School, said she applied for a grant with her employers at Yorkshire Bank to help secure the funds, which will be used to set up a nurture group for children at the school who have special needs.

She said this week: “I have been supporting St Mary’s School for seven years and I am delighted to be able to make this additional donation from Yorkshire Bank which I’m sure will benefit pupils at the school for years to come.

”I’m so proud of everything that St Mary’s School is doing and I know that the Head Teacher Mr Nolan will put the funds to great use setting up this valuable initiative at the school“.

The funds will be used to buy support materials needed to set up the nurture group and to pay for comfy furniture for a special area in the school for the children in the group to use.

Jacqui Atkinson, community affairs manager at Yorkshire Bank, said: ”Yorkshire Bank’s Staff Volunteer Programme recognises the great community work our employees are involved in outside of the bank’s own extensive volunteering programme. Any employee that is involved in a charity or not-for-profit organisation in their own time is eligible to apply for a grant.

“We actively encourage our employees to become involved in voluntary work within their own community and our grants programme is just one way we can support the valuable contribution they make in helping others.”

The grants, which can provide up to £500 for a series of good causes, are provided through the Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank Foundation, a registered charity established by the two banks back in 2008.
