Revamp pub offers fresh new look
by Tom Martin

THE Weld Blundell in Ince Blundell has finally re-opened after refurbishments and locals can now look forward to seeing the new look pub.

The building, on Scaffold Lane, closed for six weeks for the extensive revamp to improve both the interior and external parts of the historic building.

As reported in the Champion earlier this year, the Weld Blundell had been tookover by Old English Inns, a group of individual and historic hotels, inns and pubs.

There have been 25 new jobs created since the purchase, including 12 created through the Jobcentre Plus scheme, which aims to get the long term unemployed back to work.

Manager, Geraldine Conteh, said: “The Weld Blundell is an iconic pub and this refurbishment has given it the refresh it deserves.

”We are very proud of it and look forward to showing it off to customers old and new.“

The refit at the large pub includes new comfortable and modern furnishings.

The bar now offers four real ales among a wide range of other drinks and the outside of the building has been painted with new garden furniture seating 200 installed.

The business unit director for Old English Inns, Peter Hebblethwaite, said: ”This investment has brought life back to the pub.

“Our ethos is always to modernise the facilities for our customers while remaining respectful to the character of the building.

”I think we have achieved this careful balance at the Weld Blundell, one of the biggest and most beautiful inns in the group.“

The historic pub was formally known as the Ship, as sailors used to walk past it on their way from the port.
