Kindhearted Champion reader gives his bike to boy
by Tom Martin

A TEENAGER who had his bike stolen following an attack in Crosby has been given a new one by a kindhearted Champion reader.

As reported in The Champion last week, a 13 year-old was pushed off his bike by a thief who then made off with his expensive bike.

And Seaforth resident Michael Spencer, who read the article, wanted to give the youngster his own new and shiny mountain bike in an act of kindness.

Michael's wife, Ruth, said: “We saw the story in the paper and we had the idea of giving him the bike.

”My husband only bought it before Christmas and he has only used it once!

“We moved to a smaller house so don't have the room for it any more.”

The news has delighted the teen's mother, Miss Walker, who was very grateful and now hopes it can bring some joy to her son.

She said: “I'm very appreciative and especially during a time when everyone is feeling the pinch of the credit crunch.

”My son is ecstatic because ever since the theft he has been stuck indoors because all he ever did was ride his bike.

“I'm made up for him and this is fantastic news for him.”

The teenager's bike was taken on Saturday, January 4, and Merseyside Police has since launched an investigation.

A man had approached the 13-year-old at around 9pm as he was sat on the bike on Endbutt Lane and pushed him off to the ground before escaping down a nearby side-road.

Although the youngster was not physically hurt, Miss Walker had said that her son was left “heartbroken”.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call 0151 777 3093 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
