Appeal to residents to continue supporting Sefton Foodbank Network
by Tom Martin

SEFTON Foodbank Network is appealing to the continued generosity of residents to support local families and individuals living in poverty at this time of year.

The initiative is a borough-wide co-ordinating group of all four Trussell Trust foodbanks that operate in Sefton – South Sefton, Crosby area, Maghull and District and Southport - with the aims of sharing resources, training, learning and joint fundraising.

Cllr Paul Cummins, Chair of Sefton Foodbank Network, said: “Our foodbanks are extremely grateful for the ongoing support shown by Sefton residents through the donations of food and resources”.

This year, Sefton’s foodbanks are appealing for financial donations to support food distributions and crisis support from the four foodbanks across the borough, particularly in the run-up to Christmas and the winter period.

“We would encourage local residents to continue to kindly donate at food supermarket collection points across Sefton, but also providing financial donations enables the foodbanks to buy crucial items as need is presented,” said Cllr Cummins.

The Trussell Trust reported that 913,138 people received food packages from foodbanks across the country in 2013-14, compared to just 346,992 in 2012-13. In Sefton, a total of 11,102 residents received food packages during 2013-14 and a predicted 17,000 will do so in 2014-15.

Financial donations can be made directly to the Sefton Foodbank Network charity for distribution across the four Trussell Trust foodbanks and satellites, or direct to the individual foodbanks.

Fundraising donations can be made by cheques payable to Sefton Foodbank Network, c/o Sefton CVS, North Wing, Burlington House, Waterloo, Liverpool L22 0LG.

Donations can also be made to Sefton foodbanks via Sefton 4 Good – an initiative launched last year by Sefton CVS that makes it easier for individuals and businesses to support local good causes. Visit www.sefton4good.org for more information.
