A YOUNGSTER has been presented with a memorial award which was created in memory of a former Bootle pupil who passed away.

Natalya Fairclough was given the Alaa Ali Award by Bedford Primary School with the accolade being named after a former pupil who died in 2006.

Every year since losing Alaa, the school recognises a child who has been an “outstanding member” and has an excellent attitude and behaviour.

Natalya was chosen as the latest recipient of the award because she has been an exceptional role model to her classmates.

She said: “I was totally amazed and speechless when I received the award. When the details of the award were read out, I certainly didn't think it would be me. We have told everybody in my family because they are all so proud of me.”

Ruth Braithwaite, the headteacher of the school, added: “Natalya is always hard working, enthusiastic, kind and considerate of others. She comes to school every day with a big smile on her face and gives it her all. She is a role model of good behaviour and positivity.”
