Youngster gets the chop for charity
by Tom Martin

A LITHERLAND youngster has managed to raise £1,700 for charity in memory of her friend who passed away.

Scarlett Burton-Gubb, aged seven, was inspired to fundraise following the death of four-year-old Ben Willans earlier this year, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.

Scarlett set-up her own JustGiving page, where she generated £555, and donated it to the Children's Cancer Research Fund.

But she wasn't done there, and decided to cut off ten inches of her hair in a gesture which raised a further £1,200 and this was given to Ben's family.

Her proud mum, Lindsey, told the Champion: “Scarlett knew Ben through gymnastics and since his death she has wanted to raise money for charity. There was a boxing night in Liverpool where she went around with a bucket and lots of people donated money. She then had her hair cut in the ring!

”She looks completely different now and looks a lot older! She gave the £1,200 to Ben's family and the ten inches of hair has gone to the Princess Trust.“
